For over thirty years one of my most trusted dovetail tools has been my old red marking knife.  Taking the best of my old marking knife and adding some improvements, we have created the best knife for transferring tails to your pin board.  I think you will find this knife to be your missing link for transferring your tails to the pin board and cutting perfectly mating pins.

  • The knife body is made of metal and is surprisingly hefty

  • Two piece body with space to store a second blade.

  • The rectangular handle will register in your hand to help you “feel” the blade's position.

  • Comes with both our Marking Knife Blade and our Regular and our 3/4 Saw Tooth Blades.

  • .Replacement blades available.

Straight Marking Knife Blade:

  • This straight blade is designed for tracing tails onto the pin-board using traditional marking techniques.

  • Radius tip “track’s” in the end grain.

  • Wide at the blade tip for better registration against the tail.

Regular Saw-Tooth Blade:

  • Designed specifically for use with my dovetail transfer technique.

  • Made of the same blade material as my regular Dovetail Saw, .024 inch thick kerf.

  • Regular Saw Tooth Blade has 22 TPI so it fits into the kerf easily.
  • Allows you to "saw" a starting kerf in the pin-board.

3/4 Saw-Tooth Blade:
  • Designed specifically for use with my dovetail transfer technique.

  • Made of the same blade material as my 3/4 Dovetail Saw, .019 inch thick kerf.

  • 3/4 Saw Tooth Blade has 22 TPI so it fits into the kerf easily.
  • Allows you to "saw" a starting kerf in the pin-board.

First time right with Rob's tools

The instruction videos by Rob are very convincing. Having studied the ones on dovetails various times, I ordered his marking knife with saw tooth blade. Later, I came to the conclusion that the offset-gauge would further contribute to the controllability of dovetail-making. Rob and Gina were kind enough to make sure the 2 orders were combined into 1 shipment and he even had the courtesy to give me a friendly call. I had been struggling a bit with making accurate dovetails until I used these tools. Amazing thing is that my first attempt in half blind dovetails was immediately successful. These are no wonder-tools, but logic aids based on the insight of where things can go wrong like the exact place to make a cut. These tools make the process predictable and controllable. Excellent how Rob explains woodworking in his videos and how he indeed brings your work to the next level! He also is fair enough to share when he finds that a process or an insight can be further developed or needs correcting. Think we owe him a lot!
